In between the light house and our house reef there are several dive sites. Almost every hotel has declared a part of the fringing reef „their own“ spot. Particularly noteworthy is the Assalah Reef (also: Mashraba Reef). Lying directly at the bridge, not many dives take place here. Nevertheless this place offers a huge variety in regards to its flora and fauna.
We are starting our dive from the beach. After a sandy descent we soon arrive at a huge rock called Roman's Block. Leaving the stone behind we make our way to a depth of around 20 meters where we will find a family of hard corals including one big sea fan coral. There are also car tires which are now serving as homes to smaller fish and octopuses. Maybe you can even catch a glimpse of the ship wreck almost completely overgrown with corals, which impressively demonstrates how well nature can cope with the alien objects.
Often big rays and even dolphins come there to say „Hi“ to the divers. As it is in close proximity to the Sunsplash Divers Club we can reach this spot within only a few minutes.
